What is 1-Butanol CAS 71-36-3?

1-Butanol, also known as n-butanol or n-butyl alcohol (CAS No. 71-36-3), has a chemical formula of C₄H₁₀O and a molecular weight of 74.12. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with a characteristic wine-like odor, featuring both polar hydroxyl and hydrophobic alkyl groups in its structure. With a melting point of -89.8℃, boiling point of 117.7℃, and density of 0.8109 g/cm³ at 20℃, n-butanol is slightly soluble in water (7.7% w/w at 20℃) but fully miscible with organic solvents such as ethanol, ether, and acetone, while being insoluble in petroleum hydrocarbons. Its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air, with an explosion limit of 1.45–11.25% (volume ratio) and an autoignition temperature of 365℃.
